Two Monkeys Travel

Two Monkeys go to Italy 2018
Ever dreamt of riding the same hallowed roads that the famous Fausto Coppi conquered more than half a century ago? So did we, and after a bit of monkeying around, we have managed to organise our inaugural Monkey D'Italia trip planned from 22nd July to 11th August 2018.

After talking to our riders we have customised our very own itinerary of locations and climbs, and then partnered with tour company Pyrenees Multisport ( to provide transfers, vehicle support and that local inside knowledge which adds that extra touch to a trip like this.

Its a mix of mythical mountain climbs, Italian wine and pizza and some touristy stuff mixed in. Whether you're a mountain goat or a Sunday trundler this tour should suit a regular rider of medium fitness and above.

• Accommodation in either hotels or chalets for 20 nights

• All breakfasts and evening meals - lunches NOT included

Arrive Milan Malpensa International Airport on the 22nd July and be transferred to our Como base of operations.

Como - 5 Nights, 3 Cycling days

Unpack your bags, build your bikes and get ready for a leg stretch around the lake. This section of the trip will see us climb the famous Madonna il Ghisallo and pay homage at the famous cycling church at its summit. We will also follow in the footsteps of Cadel Evans as we retrace parts of his World Championship win around the shores of lake Como, before we duck into Switzerland for our first big climbing day up the StGotthard Pass , cracking the 2000m elevation point for the first time in the tour. Oh, and we manage to sneak in a rest day to squeeze in some touristy stuff here too!

Bormio - 4 Nights, 2 Cycling days

This is when its gets serious for the cycling aficionados. Arguably the most famous climb of the Giro d'Italia is the Stelvio, already hitting the high point of the tour at 2,757m. Add the Mortirolo and Gavia and there are a few epic climbs all from the front door of our accommodation.

Belluno - Gateway to the Dolomites and Venice - 6 Nights, 3 Cycling days

Into the Dolomites we go - Passo Giau, Monte Grappa and the Zoncolon - where you'll wish you put that triple on! Oh, and a day trip to Venice for a bit of Gondala'ing (is that even a word?)

Briancon - 5 Night and 4 days Cycling

Colla Della Finestre, Galibier, Izoard, Croix der Fer - whether its the gravel grinding on the Finestre, the infamy of the Tour De France's highest climb in the Galibier or the mystique of the Mountain of the Iron Cross, we finish our trip with a bit of French finesse.

There will be an early morning transfer from Briancon to Malpensa Airport in Milan on the 11th August.

Fully Supported So You Have Options and Dont Feel the Pressure

There will be two support vehicles and options on each day depending on how hard you want to go - get a lift half way to the top, opt out of the second climb, or just take a day off and go sightseeing. The options are yours and the flexibility is there to make this a cycling trip which is suitable for a range of riding abilities.

The accommodation has been based on an average price of hotels and chalets. Once the offer is accepted a more detail plan of the accommodation will be provided and discussed. Accommodation is based on half board basis, meaning all breakfasts and evening meals are included. Also based on twin share (2 riders per room)

Are your own responsibility! Get yourself to and from Milan on the selected dates. This allows you the flexibility to either stay longer or arrive earlier to extend your holiday.

Non-Riding Partners

Are welcome. We have aimed to minimise transfers, and balance time on and off the bike. Make no mistake - this is still a hard cycling holiday! But we have built in a number of rest days and plenty of time for exploring locales and sampling the delights of the local surrounds.
